How can you fix the problem with IE7 opening multiple tabs when it first starts.?

Everytime I boot up and open IE7, it opens multiple tabs and completely ties up my computer until all the tabs are closed. If another program is opened during this time, the program also opens multiple times and each advent has to be manually closed.
