Did Ronald Reagan secretly kill the 80's liberal counter culture movement?

Perhaps liberals were going way out of bounds during this time and the acceptance of gay's was sure to follow. Androgeny was pretty much a norm back them and girls they just wanted to have fun. Yet the 90's saw a more conservative form of pushing the envelop but it was nothing compare to the 80's. No the 80's were clearly more different and communal settings in the City was much more widely accepted. Talent now is seldom left to its own devices and often time it is mostly directed by "the matrix" which is a triad of individuals who work with some of the greatest singers in popular culture.
