They do that because they feel like you are not close enough. Or maybe just too busy, I just receive a letter from a long time (20+ yrs) pen pal telling me her husband died back in Dec. I felt obligated to send her a card and I did, I didn't feel like why didn't she tell me earlier, she said it's just alittle easier to talk about it now.
